Member Services

Strathglass Heritage Association is pleased to offer a number of services to our members. Services are provided on a voluntary basis by fellow members and in the main will be free of charge.

Photo Retouching

Do you have an old family photo in your collection that has deteriorated over the years and is in need of some tender loving care? Might be a picture of grandad or perhaps the family home to previous generations.

We can scan the image and hopefully restore it to somewhere close to its original form. Blemishes, scratches, tears and folds are some of the things we can remove/reduce to improve your photo. What we can’t do is replace missing detail e.g. where the image has faded badly. This service is provided free of charge.

Family Research

We can try and assist members who are researching their family history. Look ups are available on the Scotland Census Records from 1841 to 1911 (the latest currently available). We can also from time to time research the records at the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness. There may be a small charge for this service to cover costs.

Members have access to transcriptions of the 1841 and 1891 Census records for Strathglass within the parishes of Kilmorack and Kiltarlity.

Members interested in serious research of their family tree perhaps should consider a subscription with Ancestry and using the pay-as-you-go service at ScotlandsPeople.

SHA Archive

At present the SHA Archive is paper based and stored in our office at Marydale in Cannich. It is our intention to digitise the information we hold and to make it available online. In the interim members can make arrangements via the committee to inspect any archived material.

The archive will also be available for inspection at social evenings/exhibitions to be held periodically throughout the year.
